So, How About a Proper Muscle Car Price Comparison?

A good, fair comparison comparing similar trim levels equipped with similar options, not just clicking every option box. We’ll go up-level V8 with a stick as a base line. Add a performance package to each, upgraded seats, navigation, and an upgraded stereo.

We’ll start with the Camaro 2SS. Instead of adding the 1LE package, I substituted it for the RS package and 1LE Suspension package, which ends up costing $200 less than the legitimate 1LE package. I then added Recaro seats and MyLink with Nav. A Boston Acoustics sound system comes standard. As optioned, the Camaro costs $44,115 .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Next up is the Mustang GT Premium. I started with the GT Performance Package, then added a Shaker Pro audio system which required package 401A. Then added Voice Activated Navigation and Recaro leather seats. As equipped, the Mustang is $44,370 .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Last but not least (in mass anyway) is the Challenger R/T Scat Pack. From there I added the Leather Group which added performance seats. Then the Harman/Kardon stereo system, nav comes standard. There’s no performance package available. As optioned, the Challenger is $43,485 .

So, what does this show us? Well, the everyman’s performance option has gotten expensive. As well as when optioned similarly, the fall pretty in line with each other in price.

It shows that the “everyman’s performance option” isn’t every man’s performance option anymore. Every man’s performance option is the used car market, and it will continue to be the used car market.

The everyman’s performance option has just switched segments really. STs, GTIs, SIs, that’s what most can afford now.

And I honestly don’t like that. Hot hatches are the new age “pony cars”, and real pony cars are sports cars now.

So is life in the automotive world. Normal family sedans used to all be RWD and V8 powered, now look what we have, FWD 4 cylinders.

I’m sorry dude, but you’ll have to deal with it. the fact that hot hatches have become the everyman’s performance car is just a sign of shifting times.

Welcome to the 21st century, an age where gas isn’t cheaper than tap water, and emissions matter.

oh, also, I know you realize the market has changed drastically. like Logansteno said, family cars went from V8 RWD to I4 FWD, so naturally the performance cars will do the same.

but hey, i'm sorry if me going out and getting a V8 whatever sometime soon makes me seem all high and mighty. guess we can't all have pony cars of yore.....

Of course. Do you know what the difference between you and I is? I don’t need one to express my masculinity and show off to all the females because I’m not a testosterone raging high school boy trying to be a playboy.

But I’ll tell you something else to be fair, since we’re all about honesty here. Talking shit about me and my car behind my back won’t get you far either. Have fun will your future alcoholism.

heh, I find it funny how you assume that I need my car to express my masculinity and get girls.

Need I remind you I drive a jetta? if I’m using my car for anything relating to masculinity, it’s to curb it :P
And trust me, it’s usually my personality and good looks that wins girls over first. the car tends to just be the thing that gets us to whatever nice restaurant I picked for the date

And I don’t think I’ve ever talked shit about your car? you’re the one who called the STurd or whatever for awhile, remember?

And will do! you have fun with your deep seeded hatred for random people you met online, and those who have more than you.

Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. I know more than I need to know about you to know exactly what’s going to happen and all that shit.

And I wasn’t talking about the ST, oh no. I’ve heard more than enough about you from others to know your problems and your shit.

Regardless of the character you’re trying to play on here, you and I both know the truth, whether you like it or not.

bruh. it’s a two way street. we both know stuff about each other. it’s kinda how social media functions.

And if you mean I’m talking about the 944? yes, I have said stuff, since my modified VW is more reliable than it. this is based off the fact that I can go back through your posts and find about a solid half dozen of them where you’ve complained about something being borked on it!

Your modified brand new VW is more reliable than my 30 year old VW? Holy shit, I bought a project car, and your point is? Your comparing a brand new econobox to a 30 year old sports car.

What’s more, Every time it broke down, I either fixed it with my own hands, or got help, and because of that, I learned a new lesson or skill. What exactly have you done?

Kinja'd!!! PetarVN, GLI Guy, now with stupid power > K-Roll-PorscheTamer

Kinja'd!!!0

okay. imma stop you right there. No car that retails new for $26K is an econobox, especially not one that stock for stock makes your “sports car” look like a beetle.

And every time my car broke down I used my warranty (which the tune doesn't void BTW) and got it fixed for the low price of free. While it was being fixed, I used my time at the dealer reading a book. I am now a more literate person because of it.

....what? you do realize my GLI can easily out-corner your 944, right? It’s a good handling and performing car, that is both quick in a straight line, and in the twisties.

And since when am I the narrow minded one mr. "all these kids with nice cars are rich brats"?

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > PetarVN, GLI Guy, now with stupid power
10/25/2015 at 17:15

Kinja'd!!!0

And what, that all of a sudden makes it a sports car? Okay. I guess any car from the last 3 decades isn’t a sports car because your fancy German compact economy sedan can go faster in a straight line and corner. Your logic is impeccable. My ST is more capable than my 944, that doesn’t make it a sports car, it’s a hot hatch.

And your arrogance is phenomenal. Hell, you’re showing your blindness to your own fallacies right now, it’s hilarious. Acting like you have none and avoiding it. Classic you. And I’ll admit I’ve been wrong about some kids with nice cars. My old roommate from China for example is a fantastic person that I took for granted and humble about what he has. Not you.

They are pricey. But nobody pays anywhere close to msrp on these (especially the challanger and stang). I picked up a 16’ Mustang GT PP(non premium) for $32k(msrp was 37ish). If you consider that the average new car price sold in the us is over $30k, it is actually a good deal. My buddy just payed the same amount for an ND miata(gt trim). 30k doesnt get you too far these days.

As you know, my car’s not a sports car, but it outperforms many such sports cars built over the past 3 decades, including your 944, therefore I don’t care if it’s a sports car or not.

it’s a jetta. it shouldn’t be a sports car. it’s a nice, quick sporty sedan, and if you go with the times, it’s not a spectacular car by any means, but it’s a good car.

and oh honey, the reason why you think I’m avoiding my fallacies here is because I know myself way better than you. pretty sure what you consider “fallacies” are just many things taken out of context.

I’m not saying I’m perfect by any means, I’m just saying that I think you have a skewed opinion about me. also, I still don't understand where your disliking of me stems from???

These cars can spin the wheels at 40 mph. The base level V-8s in these cars cost considerably less. Meanwhile, it takes 30 grand just to get the v-6 in a Camry (with no options.)

Yes the numbers are higher than they once were, inflation does that. I don’t think you were ever going to get the big engine on a muscle car for the cost of an economy sedan. To me, 45 thousand does not seem expensive for that kind of performance plus some fairly expensive options.
